The abode of beauty: art in the everyday

Speaker: Vittorio Sgarbi
Date: Saturday, October 12
Time: 3 p.m.

Furnishing home with artwork is an act of supreme intelligence and sensitivity. There is no nobler and more refined gesture than surrounding oneself with beauty, the beauty that only art can bestow.
Art is culture, it is knowledge, it is memory. Furnishing one’s home with works of art means cultivating an intimate, daily relationship with culture. We cannot afford to be ignorant, to live without the enrichment that art offers us.

Beauty, Dostoevsky said, will save the world. Well, the beauty of art saves our everyday life from banality, from insipience, from boredom. A well-chosen work of art transforms an environment, elevates it, makes it unique.
